The Domitor Student Essay Award, organized by the Domitor Executive Committee, is an annual award meant to involve young scholars and archivists of early cinema more with the activities of Domitor and reduce the gap between the established and the coming generations of early cinema scholars and archivists.

The EC thinks it is crucial for the future of Domitor, both quantitatively and qualitatively, that young scholars and archivists present their views and enter into discussion with present members Therefore, the EC calls upon its members, those in teaching positions at universities as well those in archival positions, to actively encourage their students and/or interns to participate in this competition.

So if you have a student or intern working on a topic related to early cinema, we ask you to suggest he or she participate and submit an essay of their abilities.

The winner of the award will be announced at this year’s Domitor EC meeting at the Giornate del Cinema Muto, Pordenone, in October. The award consists of a money prize ($500) and publication of the winning essay in a professional film historical journal.

Submissions should be due by 1 September of this year (preferably earlier).
